Emergency NARCAN Administration

1. Call 911, ensure that EMS is on the way

2. Lay the person on their back and open the medication package

3. Hold the naloxone with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger and your first and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle

4. Tilt the person’s head back, providing support under the neck. Gently insert the tip of the nozzle into one nostril until your fingers are against the person’s nose

5. Press the plunger firmly to give the entire dose into one nostril

6. Place the person in the recovery position

How to put someone in the recovery position:

1. Place the person’s hand nearest to you in a right angle to their body and place the other hand across their cheek

2. Take the person’s knee that is furthest from you and pull it up so that their leg is bent across their body and gently roll them on their side facing you

3. Gently tilt their chin back to improve their breathing and to prevent them from   aspirating should they vomit

4. Wait with them until help arrives
